Is Asian New Year the next big event?
I wonder is anet is going to do an Asian New year event like wintersday. They said the next "opportunity" to win in the xunlai house would be late feb. Asian New Year runs for 15 days starting Feb 18th this year. Cantha got nothing for wintersday and deserves some fun. They already have most of it set up with the dragon festival and boardwalk stuff. Add a few cool quests, have random lacie (sp?, red envelopes) for drops or as collector items like the holiday gifts. It would be very cool.

sounds good but have not heard anything about it. You would think we would have heard something by now if they were going to do it.

Eh, that could just mean that you will be able to bet on the ladder again, which happens anyways.

Guild Wars is korean, not chinese. Chinese new year is in Feb or w/e I beleive.
Dragon Festival is just a festival which was when factions came out, so that is NOT the new year.

This might show my complete ignorance to other religions, but doesnt the Asian new year always start with a new animal to represent it?
If it does, Anet would need to change it every year. Might be more hassle then worth.
Dont get me wrong. I wouldnt mind, but it would be alot of work if the entire theme had to be changed every year.

Well, if its Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year (or tet in Vietnam) (you guys need to decide because some large portion of the 2-3+ billion people that celebrate some form of the New Lunar year should all get it right). I have Korean and Vietnamese friends that celebrate the new year so that's why I picked Asian New year. Lunar is probably the most pc.) My thought with the Dragon Festival was that many of the decorations they made are completely consistent with a lot of "new year" festivals and traditions. As Wintersday wasn't exactly "christmas" they are free to take liberties with the new year. Oh, and its going to be the year of the pig. There are 12 revolving animals. Dragons, Lions and a lantern festival on the last day are always part of the celebrations. I think it would be fun and very on theme with Cantha, and pretty easy to do. Cheers all.

Year of the pig! I doubt they would do it though. Why? Their manpower is strained for the skill balances and whatnot.
